One Liner receives 101 BRIS Speed rating for convincing Southwest win

One Liner impressed on multiple fronts winning the Southwest (G3) at Oaklawn Park on February 20, drawing away masterfully to a 3 ½-length decision and registering a 101 BRIS Speed rating.

That’s one of the better numbers this year and One Liner was making his first appearance in a Kentucky Derby qualifier.

The Southwest completed the Prep Season portion of the Road to the Kentucky Derby series, with One Liner picking up a 10-point prize, and we now enter the Championship Season for determining a berth in a 20-horse field at Churchill Downs. Point values increase to 50-20-10-5 for Risen Star (G3) at Fair Grounds on February 25.

One Liner is unbeaten in three career starts. Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by John Velazquez, the bay colt captured his career debut at Saratoga on July 23 but earned only a 75 BRIS Speed rating for the 1 ½-length tally at 5 ½-furlongs. One Liner came back from a six-month layoff to win an 6-furlong entry-level allowance test at Gulfstream on January 26, posting a much-improved 97 Speed figure while scoring by 2 ½ lengths.

Pletcher is planning one more prep for the up-and-coming prospect.
